Piperine causes the pungency in pepper and also inhibits the formation of fat cells, as researchers at Sejong University in Seoul have found in a study.

The pungency also activates the so-called thermogenesis, which ensures that the body produces heat and converts fat into energy. Consequently, pepper not only stops the formation of new problem areas, but also helps to break down existing fat deposits.
