Cayenne pepper is much more than just a spice. For the metabolism, it is a real miracle cure: Cayenne pepper leads to a temporary increase in body temperature. The capsaicin it contains really boosts the metabolism, and energy consumption increases. It is even suspected that capsaicin promotes fat metabolism. For example, one study found that capsaicin, once it reaches the small intestine, accelerates the metabolism of what is known as brown adipose tissue. The metabolism of brown adipose tissue indicates an increased energy requirement and is a sign of the recurring breakdown of body fat. Researchers at Maastricht University confirmed in another study the suspicion that capsaicin can help keep fat burning going during or after a diet. In addition, it stimulates circulation by improving blood flow and thus also helps to start the day feeling fitter in the morning; it supports weight loss and has antioxidant potential. The capsaicin it contains also has positive effects on the liver and even a stomach-protective effect.
