During the day, valerian relieves restlessness, and in the evening, it helps with nervous sleep disorders. Valerian root extracts are found in numerous mono- and combination preparations, with their effects already well-researched and analyzed.
Valerian, with its sleep-promoting effect, is a good sleep aid and also promotes restful and healthy sleep. Therefore, it is a valuable component of many relaxing and sleep-promoting herbal complex remedies. However, there is no need to fear that taking such medications will lead to increased daytime fatigue.
In the usual therapeutic dosage, valerian preparations are generally very well tolerated. In contrast to many chemical sleeping pills, no dependence, habituation, or "hang-over" effects, i.e., fatigue on the following day, have been observed with the use of valerian preparations to date.
Naturally, the effect of herbal sedatives is significantly milder than that of chemical sedatives.
